Tesla is expecting to launch the first robotaxis for their autonomous ride sharing network in 2020. Tesla will let owners add their own property equipped vehicles to its own ride sharing app, having a similar business model to Uber or Airbnb. From those rides, Tesla will secure 25% to 30% revenues.
New Tesla vehicles are now manufactured with its custom full self-driving computer chip. That chip completes the hardware requirements for total self driving. This will, however, require regulatory approval. According to Elon Musk, recharging the robotaxis would be a real challenge.
