After a month of intense investment decision making and skillful portfolio management showcases, the grand finale of Walton Laptop presents Optimity 2019, the nation’s first and only investment and portfolio management competition, was held on 29th of August, 2019 in the campus of North South University.
Organized for the third consecutive year by NSU Finance Club, this national competition has gained the prestige of being the favorite platform for the undergraduate finance enthusiasts across the country in honing their skills of making the correct investment decisions. This year the club’s collaboration with the title sponsor Walton Laptop, Co-sponsors The City Bank Ltd. and Mercantile Bank Ltd., and the Associate sponsor Goldmark Biscuits and Vanguard Asset Management Ltd. resulted in making the event more magnificent than any of its previous editions. Torun Digital’s role as the content partner was unparalleled throughout the entire journey.
A staggering number of 157 teams consisting of almost 600 talented participants, from 22 of the top universities of the country took part in this year’s Optimity. Informative roadshows and other effective promotional measures by the dexterous members of NSU Finance Club resulted in such an astonishing response from students all around the country.
In the first round of the competition, the participants had to provide solutions to online cases which assessed their knowledge on investment opportunity identification and investment decision making. The best 35 teams qualified on to the second round which mostly prioritized the evaluation of the participants’ portfolio management skills through real life investment scenarios. The teams had to solve the challenging cases and present the solutions in front of the distinguished experts in the field of investment and portfolio management. Lastly, there were 7 teams who broke through to the final round. The unnerving final round was a simulation of creating models involving the combination of various investment strategies. The teams showed utmost excellence and competed wholeheartedly to bag the winner’s trophy and of course, to beat the market.
In the end, Team Financial Fairplay from IBA, University of Dhaka clinched the winner’s title whereas Team Capitalist and Murphy’s Law emerged as combined first runners-up, making everyone ponder with amazing how competitive this year’s Optimity has been.
On the grand finale night, the presence of the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Anisul Huq, as the chief guest of the event, made the event more glorious. The presence of the Managing Director and CEO of Vanguard Asset Management Ltd., Mr. Waqar Ahmad Chowdhury and the Deputy Managing Director and CFO of The City Bank Ltd., Mr. Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman also dignified the grand show.
Regarding this year’s Optimity and NSU Finance Club’s future endeavors, the faculty advisor of NSU Finance Club Mr. Muhammad Nasiruddin expressed, “Along with the grand success of this year’s Walton Laptop presents Optimity 2019, I am pleased to assure that NSU Finance Club is moving forward in the prominent direction of brilliance.
