‘Fair’ to drop from Fair and Lovely

Hindustan Unilever has declared that it will no longer use the word ‘Fair’ in the brand name ‘Fair and Lovely’. Unilever got under pressure due to the name of its product after Johnson & Johnson quit the market following a global protest against racism after the murder of George Floyd.

Sanjiv Mehta, the Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever, stated, “In 2019, we removed the cameo with two faces as well as the shade guides from the packaging of Fair & Lovely and the brand communication progressed from fairness to glow which is a more holistic and inclusive measure of healthy skin.”
