Birdbox Review

If you still haven’t watched Netflix’s new movie Bird Box and constantly wondering if you should watch it after seeing all the memes on your news feed, then this spoiler free review is for you.

Bird Box is a post apocalyptic horror movie where people die once they make eye contact with some sort of supernatural evil being. So in order to survive, their only option is to avoid eye contact with it and that’s where the blindfold comes in. The movie features Malorie (Sandra Bullock) who embarks on a dangerous journey with her two kids in order to find a safe place away from this evil presence. The movie goes through several flashbacks to how it all started and eventually connects to the present timeline. It keeps the viewers at the edge of their seat while keeping the thing chasing them as mysterious as ever.

While the premise of the movie is great, it fails when it comes to plot execution. Many parts of the movie seem illogical at its best and some characters will drive you crazy with their actions. The individual acting and screenplay are great though, especially of Sandra Bullock who gives us another outstanding performance. This movie has a similar vibe to A Quiet Place, The Happening and The Mist and it is quite enjoyable until it starts making less and less sense.

So, here are the main reasons to watch it-

  1. Sandra Bullock
  2. To understand all the Bird Box memes

Bird Box may not be the best movie of the year but it certainly was one that caused a vibe on social media. It gave life to many dead memes and challenges, yes, those internet challenges. If you think Drake’s ‘In My Feelings’ Challenge was stupid, then you have to see the new Bird Box Challenge where people spend 24 hours blindfolded. And if watching the challenge is too cringe-worthy for you then you might want to put a blindfold over your eyes. *wink wink*

So give the movie a watch, it’s certainly worth watching if you are into mysterious post apocalyptic movies. I would personally rate it 6/10 for the movie and 10/10 for the memes.
